The Best Predictor of a Good Night's Sleep

The single biggest predictor of a good night's sleep is going to bed on an empty stomach. Going to bed on a full stomach it elevates your blood glucose which activates your sympathetic nervous system. That is your fight or flight nervous system, you will experience a higher body temperature, feel anxious, feel uncomfortable, and have a racing heart.

Many people have something sweet after dinner creating more of a glucose spike. It is not because you are anxious it is simply because the glucose has activated your sympathetic nervous system. So try for your metabolic health to not eat within a minimum of 3 hours before bed. I try to have a cup of bone broth at around 6 so that by 1 I'm ready for bed. Bone broth also has an amino acid called glycine, glycine helps promote sleep quality.
